Hope you have enjoyed this water adventure through the work of Winslow Homer. Work has begun on the new artist, Red Grooms. He is a Nashville born artist that I think will prove to interest and excite all the elementary students. This artist will bring about some 3-D projects that I think will have some interesting results.

This student was plesantly surprised upon finishing her picture. Her comment was priceless regarding the shadow under the boat. It was something to the effect that it just happened. That is the joy of creating art, sometimes the process surprises and amazes us!

This picture begins the 5th grade series of artwork. Students in 5th grade researched Winslow Homer and found the picture they wanted to paint and the only requirement was that it had to have water in the scene. I think you will be pleasantly surprised at the fine quality of these pictures. Great job, 5th Graders!!!

This 4th grade student worked tirelessly choosing just the right colors for his picture and the result is striking and a fine example of Winslow Homer's Adirondack series.

This 4th grade watercolor looks remarkably similar to Homer's own piece. Variation in color and textures makes this a fine example.

Another beautiful 4th grade Winslow Homer picture.

The combination of beautiful trees and sky make this 4th grade picture a striking example of Winslow Homer's work.

4th grade - Winslow Homer

4th Grade - Winslow Homer

The next series of pictures are the work of 4th and 5th graders. 4th Graders were shown a selection of Winslow Homer paintings and then challenged to create their own watercolor using watercolor crayons. Students were given the liberty to use artistic license in regards to what they included or omitted in their pictures. This particular pictures is a 4th grade example.

Alot of fine detail on this ship draws your attention to the bright sun behind. This is a fine example of the third grade watercolor project.

The sky of this water scene is striking and sets off the intricate ship that silhouettes the water in this picture of this third grade project.

The sun seems to be blazing hot in this picture and makes you wonder if the people near the horizon might not be pretty warm. This is another fine example of the Winslow Homer style by third grade.

3rd Grade students worked with watercolor using the wet on wet technique for sky and water with salt added to the wet paint on the bottom to give the picture a formy look of the sea. The black silhouettes make for a striking finish.

Bright color, fine detail, and beautiful trees makes this example of Winslow Homer a winner.

Fine detail in the beach area make this a striking watercolor scene for 2nd grade.

Another fine example of the 2nd grade project in the style of Winslow Homer.

Fall trees make this seascape have new look and a different feel from others dislayed for the 2nd grade.

2nd Graders created a Winslow Homer seascape using watercolor pencils, watercolor crayons and watercolor for the sky. The wet on wet technique created a beautiful finish to this project.

Lovely water and colorful sky combine to make this seascape a fine example of Winslow Homer's style.

Interesing waves and sky make for an interesting seascape by this 1st grader.

Here is another magnificent 1st grade seascape which captures the simplicity of water and the majesty of our Creator.

1st graders were exposed to wet on wet techniques to create water and sky for the background of their Winslow Homer piece. The water was created on watercolor paper and then torn to expose crashing waves which is a major part of Homer's pieces. The sailboats look as if they are gliding on the surface of these bright blue waves.

This underwater scene is especially colorful and is filled full of sea creatures. Great job, K-5!!

The lovely birds on this picture accent a beautiful underwater sea and bright sky of this K-5 student.

Another K-5 project displays the work of Winslow Homer, famous American painter of the 19th century.

Here is another K-5 water scene which used multi-levels to create a striking ocean and sun in the study of Winslow Homer.

K-5 did a multi layer ocean scene in their study of Winslow Homer. A green ocean filled with sea creatures lays below a beautiful watercolor sky with bright sun, blue clouds and flying birds. This is looks like a place Winslow Homer would have loved.

Beautiful ocean and sky are captured in this K-4 study of Winslow Homer.

Another K-4 picture pops up to splash forth with the work of Winslow Homer.

K-4 interpreted Winslow Homer's work by fingerpainting beautiful water and sky along with sea creatures in the ocean as well as all along the border. This is a nice start to the Homer study.

This is the start of some very beautiful artwork created by the Elementary Art Department at Donelson Christian Academy. All grades from K-4 through 5th grade got caught up in water scenes of Winslow Homer and this group of pictures is a testament to the talent and beauty of his work.
